Routing Options

Auto Routing

Check this box if you want Bike Route Toaster to automatically find the best route between points.  Uncheck the box to create a direct route from one point to another.

Most of the time you will want to leave Auto Routing turned on.  However it can be usedful to turn it off for fine tuning parts of the route.

All other options in this section are only applicable when auto routing is turned on.

Route Type

Choose a route type depending on the types of road use prefer to ride on:

  • Walk - The route will be calculated as though you are a pedestrian
  • Bike - The route will be calculated as though you are a regular cyclist and will make use of bike paths and other car free routes
  • Road Bike - The route will be calculated using minor roads but not off-road bike paths
  • Car - The route will be calculated as though you are driving a car
Favour Bike Paths

The higher this setting the more likely the chosen route will use roads with bike lanes and off-road bike paths.

Avoid Highways

Check this box if you don't want the route to include highways.  If you are creating a route for cycling you will want to always leave this checked.

Avoid Hills

Check this box of you want the route to avoid hills where possible.

Course Points

Add Course Points at junctions

Check this box if you want course points (e.g. Turn Left, Turn Right etc.) to be added at junctions.

Course points are used to create the Cue Sheet.  If you don't have any Course Points the cue sheet will be empty.

Side Of Road

If you are riding with a GPS unit then the GPS can sometimes get confused when you are riding a route that goes out and back on the same road.  This can be minimized by creating the route at the side of the road so that the out and back routes are not on top of each other.

Create route at side of road

Check this box to create the route at the side of the road.

Distance from center

The distance to create the route from the center of the road.

Side of road
